Hello Rawlings family. Hope you are all well. Thanks for the photograph. How is school George? Hope to hear from you soon.
BW
Oh my word we have our own blog site – how exciting!!
Eid Mubarak everyone – Happy Eid!
I hope everyone has settled back into school ok. George started his new school two weeks ago and is loving it. His school is called ‘Al Muna’ and is a brand new school in Abu Dhabi. It doesn’t have a website yet but as soon as it does I will blog about it so you can see what school life in the UAE is like.
Georges school day starts at 7:55 but he gets to finish at 2. This is so the children can get most of their school day done before the sun gets too hot. There is no grass at Georges school so no playing field for his P.E. lessons but they have laid lots of astro-turf so this is where he will be playing football and rugby. There is even a basketball court. Better than that though, Georges new school has its very own swimming pool!
George is also learning French and Arabic at his new school so perhaps when he knows a few more Arabic words he will be able to write a little message on here in Arabic for you all.
Today is the beginning of Eid which signals the end of Ramadan for Muslims. This means that all the people who have been fasting for the last 28 days can finally start eating and drinking during daylight hours again. For Muslims the next three days is like Christmas for Christians. It is a big celebration where they all wear new clothes and eat lots of lovely food. They even get presents but unfortunately Santa doesn’t bring them so the mums and dads have to buy them themselves.
We are enjoying the Eid celebrations too as we get some extra days holiday to spend together as a family.
The weather here is still hot hot hot. We are actually looking forward to when it will start to cool down a little bit – can you believe it!
We are all enjoying life in the UAE but miss all our friends from Cleobury Mortimer. George still talks about his friends from school and how much he misses you all.
We will blog again soon.

Hello Everyone,
Well its October now and the weather here in Abu Dhabi is finally starting to cool down just a little bit. It is still very very hot, but more bearable than it has been since George and I landed in July.
We are all starting to get very excited now that October is here – not just because it is Georges birthday but because at the end of the month there will be the first ever F1 race in Abu Dhabi and we are going to watch it! It is going to be very exciting and very loud. You will all have to watch it on the telly and see if you can spot us in the crowd! All the children in Georges old class will know just how much he loves cars so I am sure you can imagine just how much he is looking forward to it.
George is still enjoying school. In fact he is at his first ever after school football club as I write. Lets hope he enjoys it. At the moment in school he is learning all about the ear in science and he is reading ‘The Twits’ in English. Last week he took our camera into school to take some photographs and I will email them to Mrs Williams this week so you will be able to see a bit more about what school life is like in Abu Dhabi.

Happy Birthday for the 31st of October
P.S. Sorry this is late!
Hello everyone,
Sorry it has been a while since we have blogged but we have been SO BUSY! There is so much to tell you all.
First of all George has broken his wrist. He fell over in his playground on the RUBBER floor and unfortunately he landed in a funny way and his bones broke. He had to have an operation to put some wire in his wrist to keep his bones in place while they healed and he is in plaster all the way from his fingers right up past his elbow. He has been in plaster now for three weeks and had his wire taken out a couple of days ago. The doctor said his bones are healing well and so he only has to keep the cast on for another two weeks and then he can have it taken off. This is good news as his nan and grandad are coming out for a visit next week so it means that once his plaster comes off he will be able to go swimming with them and have fun on the beach.
George also had his birthday a couple of weeks ago so he is now 8! George’s dad and I bought him a new set of golf clubs for his birthday but he hasn’t been able to use them yet as he broke him arm two days before his birthday. They look very lovely though sat in the corner of his bedroom waiting to be used!
George, his dad and I were lucky enough to go to the Grand Prix when it came to Abu Dhabi a couple of weeks ago. We had fantastic seats right on the start line opposite the pits so for someone as car mad as George we couldn’t have been in a better place. We couldn’t believe how loud the cars were. We were all sat there with ear plugs in as we couldn’t bear the sound without them. It was a fantastic experience so we hope we get to go again next year.
George has had ‘National Day’ at his school today. National Day is a day where the emirate states celebrate joining together to become one nation. It is actually held on the 2nd of December but George’s school will be closed for a holiday then so they had their National Day a little bit early, celebrating it today instead. All the children had to dress in traditional arabic dress or the colours of the UAE flag and they spent the morning making lots of different things and the afternoon they spent having their faces painted, having henna done, meeting a Falcon (the bird of the UAE) and a Saluki dog. George wore traditional arabic clothes wearing a dishdash and a gutra. He looked lovely and I have taken some photos of him so I will email them to Mrs Williams so she can post them on here again for everyone to see. We will also be taking lots of photos on the real National Day as it is meant to be amazing to see so we will post those ones too once we have taken them.
We are just starting to think about Christmas. It doesn’t seem like its only a few weeks away as we keep expecting it to get cold but that hasn’t happened. It will be strange having our first Christmas day in the sunshine. George has been a little worried that Santa might have some trouble finding him in his new house but I am sure that won’t be a problem. Just to make sure we are going to send his letter nice and early this year and we are going to give him our change of address!
George is going to write on here himself again soon. He has just been very busy with school and with his broken arm. He was only saying yesterday that it had been a long time since he had last written anything so keep your eyes open for a message from him.
Georges school has finally got its website up and running and although it is not all working yet you can have a look at a few photos of the school on there and see a picture of Georges new headteacher. I think you will agree he is not as pretty as Mrs Williams! The website address is http://www.almunaprimary.sch.ae
George still misses all of his old classmates and talks about you all.
Well I think that is about it for now. I promise to try and write a little bit more often. I will send those pictures of George in his dishdash as soon as I get the chance.

Hi George, how are you?
I have just joined Cleobury Town under 8′s football team. On my first match I scored a whopping 5 goals and still managed to get back in defence!
Cleobury A to Z just missed out on the bronze medal. We miss you George especially at football because we have no subs.
We have been celebrating all things Australian at school, making boomerangs and hats, doing word searches and finding out lots of information on Australia.
Are you glad that Jenson Button won the championship? It must have been great to see the Grand Prix live, lucky you I wished I was there. Did you get any drivers autographs?
We had a big Halloween party at home with sparklers! After the party Kieran stayed for a sleep over.
What new friends are you making over there?
