Thank you. We are also on holiday for one week, we call this half term. We go back to school on Monday. Then we prepare for Christmas plays and Church service. Pupils sing, act, read to parents and people in the community we call ‘friends of our school’. Our children have a Christmas party at the end just before the next holiday in December. It is busy, colourful and fun!

We celebrate all faiths/festivals/traditions at our school. Pupils learn about Christianity, Islam, Hindism, Sikhism, Judaism, Buddhism. We are very lucky to have a church very near our school called St. Mary’s.
Have a good break. Speak soon :-)

Merhaba Kevser Yasa

My name is Jonty and I am in year 3 at Cleobury Mortimer School. I have a house in Turkey in Fethiye, Mugla, which I visit very often. I don’t know how far that is from your school? My grandma has lived in turkey for 5 years now. I am going to Turkey in December after christmas to stay in my house and to see my grandma and grandad and their dog called Oscar. I hope it is still nice and warm in Turkey it is very cold here now. From Jonty :)

Selam Jonty
I am really glad to meet you. I am happy that you have a house in Fethiye. It is about 1000 km away from my city. When you look at Turkey map, on the rigth of Muğla, you can see Adana. It is in the south of Turkey. I spend my summer holidays in Antalya which is the neighbour of Muğla. That means we are close to each others in summer time. Do not worry. It is not cold at the moment. But In december it may be a little bit rainy. On raıny weather Fethiye is a miracle. It becomes fantastic.
Hope to talk to you again

hi everyone…
I am still waiting for your parcel. I don’t know why it has been so late. I hope I can receive it soon. All my students ask me whether I received them or not :)
How is life going in the UK? Here it is still warm. You can go out with just a jacket and feel the sun. But I think in a few weeks it will be cold and rainy.
Most of our students are afraid of A flu (H1N1) . Sometimes they don’t even come to school. What is the situation there?
By the way , our sts are trying to write something here but they are shy and afraid of writing something wrong. Their English isn’t perfect but I always tell them not to afraid. Just be brave and write.

Hello Kevser Yasa and everyone at your school.

We are getting ready for Christmas at school now. We are going to have a special Church Service. Pupils will sing and read about Jesus. Parents are invited to watch. We are having Christmas parties. A disco and party food. The younger pupils are preparing a play called Whoops a daisey angel! Lots of singing and acting! Good fun. The school cook is going to prepare a Christmas lunch. Turkey, vegetables and cakes. Yummy food for all the staff and pupils. We play music in the dinning room while we all eat. We finish school for holidays on 18th December and pupils start again on 5th January. Many houses are decorated with flashing colourful lights in the windows and some are outside the houses and shops. Very special time here in the UK.
Take care

Hi
When I read about you preparation, I get excited. You know in Turkey we don’t celebrate Christmas as you do. We make a little celabration on just 31st of December. I would be happy if I were there at this time of the year.
You know your parcel hasn’t been delivered. The reason isn’t clever ufortunately. My students ask me everyday if I get your parcel or not. And everytime I have to say ”Unforunately no”.
Can you send me some photos of your celebration preparation and some photos from the celebration via e mail. If so, I can show them to my sts and they will be happy.

Hope to hear from you soon, bye for now, Anabell x

Mrs Kilby (19:34:17) :

Hello Kevser Yasa,
Hope you are well in Turkey. What is the weather like with you? It is very cold here now, it will be -2 tomorrow. The weather changes a lot here. Sometimes it can be a lot warmer during the winter and sometimes colder. Because it is cold we have animals that hibernate for the Winter. Do you? I have a hedghog in my garden that hibernates under my garden shed, where it is warm. Squirrels, badgers and foxes, also hibernate. Some birds migrate to warmer countries and then return to England in the spring.

How will you celebrate on 31st December? Is it a holiday? In England people stay up late to see in the new year. At midnight people cheer and sing a song called ‘Auld Lang syne’

Below is a link to a video and a version of the song.

Elliot, Martha and Reon:

Hello Turkey,

Is it nice weather there? Have you got a swimming pool in your town? How do you celebrate christmas? We go to church and for christmas dinner we eat turkey. We give each other presents and pull crackers.

Josh and Otis:

Hello Turkey,

How is the weather there? Our weather here is wet and it is going to snow.

Archie and Charlie:

Hello Turkey,

Is it nice weather in Turkey? Is it nice in the city? Is it sunny there? Have you got a swimming pool? Is there a movie you are going to see?

Bethany, Lexi and Katie:

Hello Turkey. We know that Turkey can be hot and sunny. Have you got a swimming pool, as it is hot in Turkey? We are having a Christmas party today, everyone is allowed to wear their own clothes. It is nearly the end of term and we are all tired because we have worked very hard.

Bye

Lillian, Molly, Hannah, Hattie and Maddie
Dear Turkey We did our Christmas play on Tuesday , it was great. It was called @WHoops-a-daisy Angel’. It was all about a clumsy angel, who finally had an important job to do. She had to show the angels, shepherds and kings where Jesus was born. Everyone clapped very loud when we finished.

We are having a Christmas party which is a disco today. We are also making Christmas cards and calenders for our families.

Bye

Millie, Jade and Ailsa:

We are seeing Father Christmas today, we have to think about what we would like for Christmas. He only comes if we have been very good. We would like a polypocket or a pink bike.

Josh and Louie.

We wish you Merry Christmas. Do have any special celebrations?

Gabrielle, Caitlin and Mia:

Do you have a beach near you? We know people who have been on holiday to Turkey. We have beaches in England but it isn’t very warm. We live about 2 hours from the beach. We like to fly kites, make sand castles and play with beach balls. Some people surf in the sea.

16 12 2009
Kevser Yasa (18:47:28) :

Hello everybody
We are all very happy that we have been in contact with you. You have very nice questions. I will try to answer all of them one by one.

Right now, some parts of Turkey is snowy but some parts are warm. It may not be hot enough to swim but it is warm enough to go out with just a jacket. Sure we have swimming pools. But sea in Turkey is much more better than pools to swim. Three sides of Turkey are surrounded by the seas. Black Sea, Aegean Sea and Mediterranean Sea which is the warmest. My house is one hour away from Mediterranean Sea. I will try to send some photos of our beaches to you. I hope you will like them.
We have 3 big theatres in our city. Last week I watched ”2012”. You know it? And now I am looking forward to watch ” Avatar”. Which films are in the theatres at the moment in England?
When it comes to the Christmas, our celebration is a little different from yours. I think your celebration starts on 25th of december. You celebrate it as the birthday of Jesus? Am I right? If not please correct me. But we celebtare it just as the beginning of a new year. We make our celebration on 31st of december. We come together with our relatives or friends, we eat, sometimes we go out, dance and sing. We don’t have a holiday as long as yours. We have holiday just on the 1st of January as we sleep too late in the evening on 31st of december. At school we don’t have a special party or celebration. I really wonder how you celebrate it. I would want to see. We are all looking forward to your dvd.
I hope Father Christmas visits you all and brings your presents. Because from your writings I fell that you are all good children. Right? Do you have socks on your fireplace?

Dear Gabrielle, Caitlin and Mia, Josh and Louie,Millie, Jade and Ailsa, Lillian, Molly, Hannah, Hattie and Maddie, Bethany, Lexi and Katie, Josh and Otis, Archie and Charlie, Elliot, Martha and Reon, Mrs Kilby

WE wish you a HAPPY MERRY CHRİSTMAS. We hope new year will give you all you want. Please go on asking you questions. We would be happy to answer.

Hi Cleobury Mortimer Primary School
It is really very lovely to hear news from you. Now I want to share some news with you. Last friday,on 22nd of january we started the term holiday. It was a tiring term and now we have two weeks holiday. I hope we will turn back with full of energy. the holiday will end on 8th of february.
The weather here was just a little cold but for 2 days it has been freezing. No rain, no snow, some sun but too cold. I think this cold weather will lasts for 1 or 2 more weeks and then it will be warmer soon. But in most of the cities it snows heavily.
Do you know that you are really lucky that you live with snow. I wish ı had a chance to live in a city that it snows. And I think you wish that you had a chance to live in a city that it doesn’t snow and is warmer, sunnier :)
wish you a happy week

Hi cleobury mortimer primary school
I am back again after a tiring and busy work days. What is the news there?
Have you celebrated Mothers’ Day? How was it? Will we have the chance to see the photos of the celebration?
Here in Turkey it is getting warmer and warmer. Sometimes it is really very hard even to breath. In may and june it will be so hard for the students to concentrate on the school work. We are looking forward for our summer holiday in june. Some of the students go to villages and others go to the seaside to feel cool.
On 23rd of april we will celabrate National Children Festival. It is the only official festival that is celebrated for the children in the world.Mny many children from other countries come and visit Turkey and do some activities in April. I am sure children form England will come too. Maybe you can be one of those students. Why not??? I will try to send the photos of this festival. You can search it on the web also.
Hope to hear from you as soon as possible.

Mrs Kilby (16:57:31) :

Hello everybody,

We are very excited about the World cup and lots of our classes have been learning about all of the different countries involved. Have you been watching the world Cup? We enjoyed putting the parcel together for you, telling you all about where we live. We hope you like the recipes we suggested. We have been making healthy snacks in Year 2 this week, and finding out about fruit from all over the world. Our favourite was a tropical smoothie using pineapples, bananas and mangoes. Do these fruits grow in your country? At the moment we have strawberries and raspberries growing in our gardens, they are sweet, juicy and delicious.

On Friday we made some PowerPoint presentations all about our capital city London, we are going to email them to your teacher on Monday. What is special about your capital city?

Kevser Yasa (17:06:41) :

Hello Hello hello again
After a very long and nice holiday we are back again. During the summer it was so hot that even breathing wasn’t easy. In summer we prefer going to the seaside. Most of the families have a summer house near seaside or over the mountains for cold weather.
On monday we will start working again but it is still too hot. We thank you deeply because of your parcel. as soon as my new 4th grade students turn back to the school I will make a preantation of your city. So that they will see the capital city of their foreign language. It will be a good motivation for them. And then my students will prepare a powerpint presentation for you.
We are happy to come back again and hope to hear you.

Year 1 (15:14:10) :

Dear Turkey

We have looked at your school website. We think your playground is very big and you school is huge. What is your school like inside? Our classrooms have lots of colourful displays.
We looked at your school pictures. Have you made a school play? We are working on our class assembly to show our parents.
We think it is very hot in Turkey. Are we right? some of us have been on holiday to turkey. Sercan is a boy in our class and he is from Turkey. He travels to turkey to visit his grandma.
Yesterday we went on a school trip to Acton Scott, this is a farm. On Friday we are having Sports Day. This happens in the summer every year.

We look forward to hearing from you.
